Charles Shirvell
1961-2008

It is with great sadness - but also great joy at having known him as both a friend and fellow performer - that The WestEnders remember and pay tribute to Charles Shirvell, who passed away on 10th September 2008.
All of us at WestEnders were privileged and proud to have known Charlie. Anyone who ever saw him perform, whether with The WestEnders or in one of the numerous stage shows that he appeared in, will realise that it is almost an understatement to say how talented he was. His voice was ri ch and powerful with his incredibly high falsetto, which of course he put to good use as a wonderful Mary Sunshine in Chicago. He often sang Mr. Cellophane from that show with The WestEnders, and it never failed to garner a huge and appreciative response from audiences. His stage persona in our concerts was a true extension of his witty, clever and charming self. He was a true gentleman, but with a coruscating wit that would have us all laughing long and hard: both on and off stage.

Charlie worked extensively with us over many years, both on land gigs in the UK and Europe and on many of our cruise engagements. The fun we had on our travels together...whether to Clacton or Cape Town is a memory that we will treasure always. It is truly a tragedy that he will travel with us no more, but he will remain with us wherever we go: an enduring legacy of friendship, fun, showmanship and talent.

We will miss you very much Charlie and we'll never forget you, so...
"till we all meet again in Fortaleza"
...rest in peace.
